General Information
The Section of International and Public Affairs (SoIPA) offers academic paper editing and presentation technique tutoring services by native-English speakers. Note that the services and conditions stated below are only available for current faculty, staff, and students of GIST.

Writing Clinic

The general conditions for completing revisions using this service are as follows:


  1. The fee for this service is W35,000 per hour, as set by SoIPA policy; you pay for the actual time required. At the completion of the project, an invoice is provided that includes how/where to make payment Note that depending on the quality of your writing, a general revision estimate is:
    1. about 1000 words per hour for journal papers.
    2. about 750 words per hour for theses/dissertations.
  2. MSWord (.doc or .docx) and LaTeX are the preferred file formats, though Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) revisions are possible. Note that with .pdf files a second review is usually required to ensure the quality of the changes you will have to make to your original paper. Before submitting a LaTeX file, please confirm with the Instructor of your choice if this option is available.
  3. When submitting a paper, please include the following:
    • The file(s) you want revised.
    • The name of the journal you are submitting your paper to.
    • A copy of the 'style guide' and/or a sample paper that can be used as a reference for formatting issues.
    • If the paper has been previously reviewed by the journal, please also include a copy of the reviewer's comments.
  4. The following information is also required:
    • The deadline for the project. Give a realistic day, not asap. Note that next-day revisions are not commonly possible, as instructors may have a number of projects, or classes to teach or attend to.
    • Make sure that your name, department name, lab name, office telephone #, fax #, and cell # are included in the email requesting these services. This information is used for record-keeping, and will be included on the invoice.

Speech Clinic

The general conditions for using this service are as follows:

    • Materials review (.ppt or .pptx).
    • Accent/pronunciation coaching.
    • Presentation skills coaching.
    • Other services as needed.
  3. When booking this service, the following information is required:
    • The deadline for the project. Give a realistic day, not asap. Note that next-day requests are not commonly possible, as instructors may have a number of projects, or classes to teach or attend to.
    • Make sure that your name, department name, lab name, office telephone #, fax #, and cell # are included in the email requesting these services. This information is used for record-keeping, and will be included on the invoice.
